Any room can benefit from an eye-catching piece of art, whether it’s a sculpture, black and white painting, or a colourful vintage photograph. But while you may only consider incorporating art into your bedroom, living room, or entryway, there’s one space that’s often overlooked—the bathroom.
Art and interior design has always been a huge passion of Koralia, Director at Quarrybank Boutique.
“When we worked on creating the displays for our showroom, I was trying to figure out, what I would want to look at, whilst spending my time in the bathroom, whether in the shower or simply when using the toilet. Soon, it became apparent to me that art and bathrooms beautifully compliment each other and canvas in a bathroom space, provides that ‘point focal’, place of focus.
” We spend a lot of time in our bathrooms, so why not enhance it with sophistication and true uniqueness? Bathrooms are equally important to the living room and kitchen, yet we often forget to “invest” in that sacred space and create something majestic.
” I was on a mission to find a suitable collection that we could offer our clients and inspire them with, and it seems that Universe listened when I came across Lily Greenwood at the Manchester Art Fair, last autumn.
I immediately fell in love with the koi carps, ducks and mushroom lampshades.
After purchasing Lily’s piece for my home, I decided to approach her to display her art in our showroom in Wilmslow. To my delight, she said YES and five of her canvases were delivered yesterday.
Lily’s work reflects a love of nature, a great source of inspiration for shapes and colours to work with.
Her original paintings are often inspired by multitudes in nature (flocks, shoals, gatherings…) and the flow of that multitude, in glorified representations.
Lily’s paintings usually employ an element of collage material, however rather than found material, Lily uses paper copies of her own painting studies. For example, butterflies or koi fish are meticulously hand-painted, then reproduced, cut, and arranged in a composition on the canvas. Washes of inks are applied, and sometimes additional painted or drawn details, before a clear gloss varnish secures the work and adds an opulent lustre. Perfect solution for humidified spaces.
Work is often oriental in style; Lily is greatly influenced by the colours and aesthetics of eighteenth century printmakers such as Hokusai and Hiroshige, and Japanese kimono design. Lily strives to capture beauty, creating a ‘flow’ and an energy.”
I would like to think that our showroom, Quarrybank Boutique always offers unique ideas for bathrooms but I believe we may be starting a whole new trend here.
