Curves in bathroom design

Celebrating feminine curves in bathroom designs

Curves are often linked to a female body yet we see curves everywhere in nature: leaves, waves, clouds, fish, rose petals or fruit.

I’m still learning about the KBB industry yet I can’t help but notice that bathroom furniture design seems to be rapidly moving away from the masculine lines into more feminine and flowy curves.

Straight lines and sharp edges shout no mess, no frills. ‘Straight’ to the point. Yet there is something so much more attractive in rounded silhouettes. Smooth, welcoming, and much more aesthetically pleasing. Connected to what we, humans are made of.

So is the furniture design going back to the Time of Creation? Are we finally acknowledging the ever rising female qualities and the need for its expression?

Some manufacturers picked up on that trend very quickly. The new range of Roper Rhodes Widcome beautifully shows off curvaceous body. There is something rather sensual about that product. Similarly, Wilton range by Heritage. Beautifully rounded and classic.

According to Feng-Shui, round edges help the positive energy to flow. Qi (Chi) naturally flows in curves, whereas when it comes to straight lines, it simply flows too fast. You would feel that, by touching a sharp edged furniture and then a sleek, curved one.

Soft lines are also profoundly visible in bathroom mirrors. Traditional mirror cabinets are long gone, only to be replaced by circles, ovals and irregular lines. Like this Dockland Capsule by Origins Living. Simple, yet so much more sophisticated than a traditional sharp-edged mirror.

And tiles? (I have to mention tiles, even though they are not furniture). Those are undergoing their own evolution into curves with new lines introduced, like the ones by Ca’Pietra – Scallop tiles which resemble fish scales. So popular on Instagram.

There is something heartwarming in seeing bathroom designs more and more accommodating natural shapes and materials. Somehow, it brings us all closer to where we all come from, more aligned and in flow with Mother Earth and also, our own human nature.
